Calella – Barcelona, Spain – Hotal Best Western Les Palmeres

Getting to Calella should have been easier than we made it.  From the airport, you can get on the R2 line to Sants, then switch to the R1 line towards Macanet-Massanes.  Should be less than 10 Euros.  We didn’t quite do it this way, so it took a bit longer and cost a bit more…but it was an adventure!

Calella itself is a beach town.  Our main goal from there was visiting Figueres which we thought was closer, but it turned out to be a little over an hour train ride.  Still, it turned out well and we had a nice time on the beach.

The hotel itself was a solid 3 star hotel.  Breakfast was very good, the bed was big and not too hard (not the most comfortable bed ever, but better than many we’ve had in Europe, although since most beds in Europe, that we’ve slept on, don’t come close to a typical American bed for comfort, it is all relative), it had free internet (just ask for the WiFi key) and the room was clean.  It also had a big new TV if that is important to you. We did end up watching a movie during a rainy afternoon.

The downsides were that the walls are pretty thin (you’ll hear every footstep above you if the person is wearing hard soled shoes or heals and doors opening/closing for all the rooms around you) and there can be street noise until 1-2 am. It is also about a 15 minute walk from the train station.

I’m sure there are nicer and fancier places in Calella, but if you can get a good price on it, the Best Western Les Palmeres is a decent place to be.

I totally forgot to take any pictures of the room or hotel itself, but here are some pictures of Calella.
